What You'll Need
Woven fabric (perfect for practice!)
Seam allowance: I’ll be stitching ⅛ inch from the edge, but adjust as needed.
Matching or contrasting thread for a decorative effect
Step 1: Press Your Seam
Press your seam flat and then press it to one side. A well-pressed seam ensures your edgestitching stays neat and straight.
Step 2: Set Your Stitch Length
Set your sewing machine to a standard stitch length, around 2.5–3.0mm for durability and a clean finish.
Step 3: Align and Sew Close to the Edge
Position your fabric under the presser foot, aligning the needle about ⅛ inch from the seam or fabric edge. Use the edge of your presser foot or an edge guide for consistency.
💡 Tip: If available, an edgestitch foot can make this step even easier!
Step 4: Secure and Press
Backstitch at the beginning and end to secure your stitches. Press the seam again for a crisp, polished look.
Bonus Tip
Edgestitching adds durability and style to your seams—perfect for bags, garments, and home décor!
And that’s it! You’ve got a beautifully stitched edge. Happy sewing!
